Lights Out!

Here’s a challenge, next time you walk home through Selly Oak in the evening, count how many lights are on in empty rooms. It’s surprisingly high. Despite the best efforts of numerous campaigns, people still frequently leave their lights on.

By reducing how long lighting is on for can save £15 – 20 per lightbulb per year for old incandescent or halogen lightbulbs, and £5 per lightbulb per year for newer CFL and LED bulbs.

If you have a lightbulb break, spend the extra money on an LED lightbulb. They are less than £5 more and will payback within a year. Switching from a halogen light to a LED saves £7.50 per lightbulb per year.

We are giving out stickers to put on light switches every time we set up a stall on campus. Come grab one and help you, and whoever lives in that house next year, save money.

If you more detail, here's a breakdown of the main bulb types.
